Bozovic and Vanden Bulcke talked friendship and cooperation between Serbia and Belgium
New York, January 24th, 2024
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Bozovic, was in the first official visit to the Consulate General of Belgium in New York on Tuesday afternoon.
The Consul General Filip Vanden Bulcke first thanked Bozovic for the visit, stating that such visits are not very common among colleagues in New York, and so he was extremely pleased with Bozovic's initiative to meet. He then briefed Bozovic on the scope of his work, as the Consulate General of Belgium in New York, within its jurisdiction, is responsible for as many as 23 federal states in the U.S. In addition, they discussed the numerous trade offices that operate under the umbrella of the Consulate General of Belgium.
Afterwards, the two discussed Serbia and its path towards the European Union, as Belgium has recently taken over the EU presidency. Bozovic confirmed that Serbia's strategic interest is EU membership, as well as strengthening friendship with the United States, which Vanden Bulcke welcomed. Vanden Bulcke then spoke about the positive experience with American investments in the pharmaceutical sector in Belgium.
Bozovic also mentioned his intentions for an initiative to erect a monument to Nikola Tesla in New York, one of priorities in his mandate. Vanden Bulcke considered it an exceptional idea, stating that although such initiatives take time, they are worth the effort.
The friendly discussion was followed by a photo session, during which Bozovic presented gifts from the Republic of Serbia to his colleague from Belgium – the Serbian Chardonnay, and a book about the great scientist Mihajlo Pupin.
The two agreed that there are no issues in the relations between the two countries, opening opportunities for stronger collaboration between the consulates in New York. They promised each other to meet at future events organized by the consulates representing their respective countries.
