The Consulate General of Serbia in New York was proud to host the presentation of Why So Serious, the biography of NBA star Nikola Jokić, written by renowned sports journalist Mr. Mike Singer. The event took place on January 30, 2025, at the Consulate General’s premises in New York. Known for his humility and extraordinary basketball prowess, Nikola Jokić has won the admiration of basketball fans worldwide, and Why So Serious provides an in-depth look into his incredible story. Mr. Mike Singer, attending as a special guest, eloquently shared fascinating insights into the writing process and the inspiring journey of Nikola Jokić, tracing his path from his Serbian hometown to the pinnacle of the NBA. Before the book presentation, Consul General Vladimir Božović delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of basketball in Serbia and the resonance of Nikola Jokić’s success in his homeland. He particularly emphasized how Jokić stands on the shoulders of giants in Serbia’s rich sporting tradition and continues to inspire future generations, further enhancing the country’s legacy on the global sports stage. The speech is available separately, along with this press release. The event generated tremendous interest among the Consular Corps, local media representatives, the Consulate’s business partners, and the Serbian diaspora, exceeding the venue’s capacity. This overwhelming response underscored the deep connection and admiration for Nikola Jokić within the Serbian community and beyond. Organized on the initiative of Mrs. Snežana Rosić, a personal friend of Mike Singer, the event also greatly benefited from her instrumental role in securing two major sponsors – Balić winery and Yebiga rakija. As a result, it was not only a highly successful event for the Consulate but also a model gathering that showcased the vast potential and far-reaching impact of Serbian public diplomacy when our diplomatic missions and diaspora members join forces. The Consulate General of Serbia in New York remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that celebrate and promote Serbian excellence in all fields. The Consul General Vladimir Božović warmly welcomes such endeavors, working closely with the diaspora and its distinguished members to strengthen Serbian cultural and public diplomacy. The Consulate General extends its gratitude to all attendees, particularly esteemed colleagues from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions and the Diplomatic Consular Corps, for their participation in honoring Mr. Singerćs book, Serbian athletic achievement, and Nikola Jokić’s remarkable career.
