Organized by the Delegation of Flanders to the USA, this solemn event pays tribute to those who gave their lives in World War I, serving as a poignant reminder of the universal values of peace, freedom, and solidarity.

The ceremony gathered high-ranking officials, including Edward Mermelstein, Commissioner for International Affairs at the NYC Mayor’s Office, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, city institutions, veterans’ organizations, and cultural institutions.

With the reading of the iconic poem In Flanders Fields and the laying of wreaths, attendees honored the memory of the fallen in a moment of silence and reflection. Following the ceremony, a presentation was held at Flanders House, led by researchers from the In Flanders Fields Museum, highlighting the role of American forces during the Great War.
