The traditional concert of the United Nations Symphony Orchestra (UNSRC) titled “Global Women in Music”
At a time when works by women composers account for only five percent of the repertoire performed by major music institutions worldwide, the aim of this concert is to bring female composers, conductors, and performers into focus, thereby contributing to greater gender equality and inclusivity within the music industry and the broader social environment.
The concert program featured works by women composers from different parts of the world, performed by the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, an international ensemble of musicians working within the United Nations and other international organizations headquartered in New York City. The orchestra was founded by and is led by its music director, Predrag Vasić.
This year’s concert was largely marked by the presence of Serbia. The orchestra was conducted by Serbian conductor Prof. Vesna Šouc Tričković, PhD, of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, while the program, alongside works by composers from the United Kingdom, Argentina, Spain, Iran, Jordan, Zimbabwe, and the United States, also included the composition Heroic Cinematic by Serbian composer Ana Krstajić.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York City, in cooperation with Air Serbia, was one of the sponsors of this significant cultural event, providing support for its organization and promotion.
The concert took place in an exceptional atmosphere and was attended by a large audience, including members of the Serbian community in New York City, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and officials from the United Nations and its agencies and organizations.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York City remains committed to supporting and organizing cultural activities that promote Serbian art and culture on the international stage, while also strengthening cooperation and cultural ties between the Republic of Serbia and the United States.
