Today, in my capacity as Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, member of the Executive Committee and Vice President of the Society of Foreign Consuls, I participated in the Executive Committee meeting of the Society of Foreign Consuls
During a very productive and open discussion, I emphasized the importance of practical and effective communication between the diplomatic and consular community and New York City institutions — communication that should lead to concrete action and meaningful solutions for our communities and for all New Yorkers.
I underlined that, just like the administration of New York City, we also see our role primarily as a service to our people and communities, which makes close cooperation with the Office for International Affairs a natural and highly valuable partnership.
I also stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences among our capital cities and major global urban centers, particularly in the areas of governance, infrastructure, management of complex urban systems, and public services that directly affect the daily lives of citizens.
An important part of the discussion was dedicated to global affairs and contemporary international challenges, including the role of diplomacy, cooperation through the United Nations, and various international initiatives that connect cities, nations, and peoples in the pursuit of peace, stability, and sustainable development.
It was also my pleasure to propose ideas for jointly marking two important historic milestones ahead of us — the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 400th anniversary of New York City — through initiatives that celebrate friendship, diversity, shared values, and the contributions of all communities that have helped shape New York into one of the world’s greatest cities.
