Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) Visits Brooklyn Marine Terminal and Explores the Future of New York City’s Maritime Infrastructure
The visit, organized in cooperation with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), focused on plans for the transformation of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal, as well as New York City’s broader efforts to modernize maritime freight transportation and make greater use of its waterways through the Blue Highways initiative.
During the introductory presentation and discussion, Ambassador Dr. Vladimir Božović, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York and President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC), addressed the hosts and participants. On his own behalf, on behalf of his fellow consuls and the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC), he expressed appreciation for the invitation and for the opportunity provided to New York’s international consular community to gain first-hand insight into this significant initiative.
Ambassador Božović welcomed the vision presented for the future of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and highlighted the ambition and significance of the project for the further development of New York City’s infrastructure, transportation and waterfront areas.
In his discussion with project representatives, he also highlighted the challenges associated with implementing an undertaking of such scale and complexity, particularly given the extensive infrastructure work involved and the unique pace and operational dynamics of one of the world’s largest and busiest cities.
Following the presentation and Q&A session, the participants toured the Brooklyn Marine Terminal, gaining a closer view of the site, its current role and its potential within New York City’s evolving maritime network.
The visit also provided members of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) with an opportunity to learn more about the Blue Highways initiative and plans to expand the use of New York City’s waterways for freight transportation, including the potential development of electric barge operations and other solutions aimed at creating a more efficient and sustainable freight network.
The Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) extends its sincere appreciation to NYCEDC and all representatives involved in organizing and hosting the visit for the informative presentation, discussion and site tour, as well as for providing members of New York’s consular community with an opportunity to learn first-hand about an initiative that forms part of the City’s evolving waterfront and maritime infrastructure.
Through initiatives such as this visit, the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) continues to connect New York’s international consular community with institutions, projects and initiatives shaping the City’s future, while fostering dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and opportunities for international cooperation.
