23. Jan 2026.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York participated in the exhibition “Art & Diplomacy – An Exhibition,” organized by the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SOFC) at the Philippine Center in Manhattan.

In addition to Serbia, numerous countries took part in the exhibition, including Barbados, Georgia, India, Malaysia, Morocco, the Philippines, Russia, Turkey and South Africa, further confirming the international character and significance of this event.

This cultural gathering brought together members of the diplomatic and consular corps, representatives of the City of New York, the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions (OFM), artists, and many distinguished guests, with the aim of highlighting through art the importance of culture as a universal language in international relations.

The exhibition was ceremonially opened by the Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines in New York, Mr. Senen T. Mangalile; the President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SOFC) and Consul General of Georgia, Ms. Maia Bartaia; the Commissioner of the City of New York for International Affairs, Ms. Aissata M. B. Camara; and the Regional Director of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions (OFM), Ms. Kathy Eagan.

In their remarks, they emphasized that the “Art & Diplomacy” exhibition once again demonstrates that New York is a meeting place of cultures and dialogue, that cultural cooperation plays an important role in strengthening mutual understanding and respect, and that art represents a powerful bridge between nations, contributing to the development of lasting friendships and partnerships within the international community.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia presented two artworks. The audience had the opportunity to view the painting “Belgrade” by Serbian artist Vuk Vučković, from his series “Exciting Cities,” which portrays in a contemporary and dynamic manner the spirit and character of Serbia’s capital. Also exhibited was the sculpture “Tesla’s Nest” by Serbian-American multimedia artist Aleksandra Kokotović, inspired by the legacy of Nikola Tesla and his vision of science, energy, and form.

The artistic program from Serbia was further enriched by a musical performance by pianist Aleksandar Hadžijevski, who contributed to the ceremonial and inspiring atmosphere of the evening through his interpretation of a composition by Stevan Mokranjac, as well as his own original work.

We are proud to have had the opportunity to present Serbian culture and artistic creativity at such an important international event.
