Observance of International Women’s Day “Serbian Women in Music”
The event was organized in anticipation of International Women’s Day, as well as ahead of the concert of the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, whose founder and music director is Predrag Vasić. At the evening concert titled “Global Women in Music,” the orchestra will be conducted by Vesna Šouc Trićković, conductor and professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, while the concert program will also include a composition by Serbian composer Ana Krstajić.
The ceremony was opened by Consul General Vladimir Božović, PhD, who in his address emphasized the importance of marking International Women’s Day, as well as the concert “Global Women in Music.” The Consul General highlighted the important role and contribution of women in all spheres of society, from culture and the arts to science, diplomacy, and public life. He expressed his gratitude to Air Serbia for its support in the organization of this event, as well as to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its understanding of initiatives that promote Serbian art and culture.
While welcoming other guests, including composers Valerie Naranjo (USA, Ute and Navajo tribes), Niloufar Nourbakhsh (Iran), Aida Saco Beirao (Spain), and Morena Galan (Argentina), he emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the connection of diverse communities in New York, one of the world’s most important multicultural centers, with the aim of further improving the position of women and promoting their achievements.
On this occasion, recognition was given to distinguished artists, conductor Vesna Šouc Trićković and composer Ana Krstajić, whose artistic work represents a significant contribution to the development and affirmation of the Serbian music scene, as well as to its successful international promotion.
In the artistic part of the program, soloist Vasilija Đurović from the Serbian cultural and artistic society “Gračanica” from Boston performed, enriching the evening with her interpretation of traditional songs from Serbia and further enhancing the program dedicated to Serbian women in music.
Following the official program, a reception was held for guests featuring traditional Serbian specialties, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere and the continuation of conversations in the spirit of cultural exchange and the preservation of Serbian tradition.
The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of cultural institutions, as well as numerous guests from the artistic and public life of New York. The reception took place in a spirit of friendship, cultural exchange, and the joint celebration of a day dedicated to the rights, achievements, and role of women in contemporary society.
By organizing the event “Serbian Women in Music,” the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York once again highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day as an opportunity to recognize the exceptional contribution of women to culture, art, and society as a whole. At the same time, the event represents a confirmation of the Consulate’s commitment to promoting Serbian culture abroad and strengthening cultural and social ties between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America.
