MESSAGE ON SERBIAN UNITY, FREEDOM AND NATIONAL FLAG DAY

15. Sep 2026.
On the occasion of September 15 – Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day, I extend my warmest congratulations to all citizens of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, as well as to all Serbs within the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York and to our people around the world.

This holiday reminds us of the values that have sustained and united us throughout history – unity, the spirit of freedom, faith, language, culture, tradition, and love for our people and homeland.

Our tricolor is more than a state and national symbol. It is a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, dignity, and belonging, but also a commitment to preserve what our ancestors entrusted to us and to pass on to future generations a stronger, more united, and more successful Serbian community.

Today, I think especially of our people in the United States of America, and in particular of the Serbian community within the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York. Far from their homeland, they preserve the Serbian name, faith, language, culture, and traditions, while through their work, knowledge, and achievements they contribute to strengthening the ties between Serbia, the Serbian people, and America.

May this day remind us that we are strongest when we are united, when we respect one another, and when, regardless of where we live, we know who we are, where we come from, and what kind of future we wish to build.

Let us proudly display the Serbian tricolor and gratefully remember all those who, throughout history, fought for the freedom and dignity of our people.

Happy Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day!

Long live Serbia!

Long live the Republic of Srpska!

Long live the Serbian people, wherever they may be!

Ambassador Dr. Vladimir Božović

Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York
