MEMORIAL DAY

26. May 2026.
Today, as the United States commemorates Memorial Day, I extend, with special respect and sincere friendship, my heartfelt congratulations and deepest appreciation to all our American friends, both on behalf of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York and in my personal capacity.

This great national holiday, which originated after the American Civil War under the name “Decoration Day,” is dedicated to honoring all brave men and women who gave their lives for freedom, democracy, and the highest ideals of their homeland. Today, America pays tribute to all fallen heroes who, throughout history, made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their nation.

The Serbian people remember with particular pride and respect the historic alliance between Serbia and the United States in both World Wars, as well as the brotherhood of our nations in the struggle for freedom, peace, and justice. A special place in our shared history belongs to the historic raising of the Serbian flag above The White House in 1918, as a sign of respect for the immense sacrifice and heroism of the Serbian people during the Great War — a unique and powerful symbol of friendship and alliance between our two nations.

May this day remain a lasting reminder that freedom, peace, and human dignity are values paid for by the greatest sacrifice, and values that continue to unite us today.

Eternal glory and gratitude to all fallen heroes.

God Bless America and the enduring friendship between the Serbian and American people.
