The Consulate General in New York had the pleasure of hosting, for the first time, the spring scientific conference of the American-Yugoslav Medical Society (AYMS), a professional diaspora organization that has brought together doctors from our region living and working in New York for over half a century.

This society, founded in the late 1950s at the initiative of Dr. Božidar Lazarević and officially registered in New York in 1973, today includes several generations of doctors from Serbia, as well as American physicians of Serbian origin.

The event was opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Kevin Jovanovic, President of AYMS, followed by a scientific lecture on the topic of early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of colorectal cancer, delivered by Dr. Jusuf Zlatanic.

In the informal part of the program, members of the society had the opportunity to network and exchange professional experiences, as well as to become better acquainted—through conversations with consulate representatives—with the activities of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York and the services it offers to our citizens.
