Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Božović, PhD, attended the Divine Liturgy and the ceremonial beginning of the new school year at the Church of St. Nicholas in Philadelphia

At the invitation of the Church-School Municipality of the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas in Philadelphia, the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Božović, PhD, attended the Divine Liturgy and the ceremonial beginning of the new school year at this parish.

On this occasion, Consul General Božović greeted the youngest children, students, and attendees of the Serbian Language School, wishing them a successful start to the school year. In his address, he reminded the children and their parents of the importance of preserving the Serbian language, faith, and culture, as well as the proud history of the Serbian people and its spiritual and cultural luminaries.

He encouraged them not to forget their roots, to nurture their belonging to the Serbian nation, and to be proud daughters and sons of Serbia, wherever they may live. He also invited them to visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York to learn more about its work and activities.

Consul General Božović also informed the Church-School Board about the calls for proposals issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Directorate for the Diaspora, as well as the activities undertaken with the Ministry of Education regarding the financing of Serbian language instructors at this Church-School Municipality.

During his stay in Philadelphia, Consul General Božović also took the opportunity to present the work and activities of the Consulate General, to engage in discussions with members of the Serbian community on enhancing cooperation and addressing consular matters of importance to them, and to meet with prominent representatives of the diaspora.

On this occasion, Consul General Božović also met with Nikola Lončar, founder and president of the Tesla Science Foundation in Philadelphia, with whom he had a substantive discussion on continued cooperation and joint activities regarding the installation of a Nikola Tesla monument in New York.

Finally, Consul General Božović expressed his gratitude to the clergy, the Church-School Municipality, and the hosts for the invitation, warm welcome, and cordial hospitality.
