26. Jan 2026.
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Božović, PhD, attended, upon the official invitation of the Church-School Congregation of the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Paterson, the ceremonial celebration of Saint Sava’s Day, held on January 24 at the Serbian Estate in Blairstown, New Jersey.

On that occasion, the Consul General addressed the attendees and recalled the greatness and significance of Saint Sava, emphasizing his Christian and educational mission in the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people. He extended his congratulations to the organizers, the sponsors of the celebration, and all those present, highlighting the enduring importance of Saint Sava’s legacy as a spiritual and educational foundation of the Serbian nation, as well as the importance of preserving language, culture, and unity among younger generations in the diaspora.

He noted that the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York will continue to support the activities of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian community, which play a special role in safeguarding national and cultural identity.

The celebration brought together numerous members of the Serbian community, children and parents, as well as representatives of the church-school congregation, who jointly marked the holiday dedicated to the first Serbian Archbishop, educator, and founder of Serbian education.

Following the blessing of the ceremonial bread and wheat, a cultural and artistic program was performed by the children, featuring recitations, choral songs, and a folk dance performance by the cultural and artistic society “Drina,” in the spirit of preserving Serbian tradition and identity. The celebration continued with a festive Saint Sava’s dinner and fellowship in a warm holiday atmosphere.
