Ambassador Dr. Vladimir Božović on a Working Visit to Boston and Cambridge

The visit began with a meeting with students and academics gathered around the South Slavic Student Association Boston, including students of Serbian and other Balkan backgrounds. They briefed Ambassador Božović on their activities, academic life, networking and their continued ties with the countries and communities from which they originate.  

The meeting was followed by a tour of the Harvard University campus in Cambridge, during which the students introduced some of the most significant parts of the campus, including Harvard Yard, the university library, student residences and historic spaces central to academic and student life.  

Ambassador Božović then visited St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, where he was welcomed by Father Aleksandar Vlajković, parish priest of the Cathedral, together with Daniel Spasić, President of the Church-School Board.  

As an honorary guest, Ambassador Božović attended SerbFest, where he met with numerous members of the Serbian community, as well as longtime friends and acquaintances from his previous official visits to Boston.  

The cultural program featured the Gračanica Folklore Ensemble, directed by Đorđe Koldžić, as well as a visiting folklore group from Jacksonville, Florida.  

The festival was held in a warm atmosphere of Serbian tradition, music, folklore and community spirit, accompanied by traditional Serbian food and gatherings of families and young people.  

On Saturday evening, Boston-based Serbian entrepreneur and Special Adviser to the Crown of H.R.H. Crown Prince Alexander, Sava Čvek, hosted a dinner at the Harvard Club. Discussions focused on his activities within Boston’s business community and on opportunities for stronger connections between Serbia, Boston’s business circles and the Serbian diaspora.  

On the second day of the visit, early in the morning before the Divine Liturgy, Ambassador Božović once again toured the Harvard University campus, gaining additional insight into its history, architecture and academic tradition.  

He then attended the Divine Liturgy at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, celebrated by Father Aleksandar Vlajković.  

Following the Liturgy and a community luncheon, a working meeting was held with Father Aleksandar Vlajković, Daniel Spasić, President of the Church-School Board, Đorđe Koldžić, Director of the Gračanica Folklore Ensemble, and other representatives of the Serbian community, with Sava Čvek also participating.  

The discussions focused on previous cooperation, earlier visits by the Consul General to Boston, and concrete opportunities to further strengthen relations between the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian community in Boston.  

During the visit, many citizens also spoke directly with Ambassador Božović about consular matters and the exercise of their rights, including questions related to voting abroad. The Consul General provided information on the available options in accordance with applicable law and decisions of the relevant authorities.  

Ambassador Božović described the visit as highly successful, substantive and productive, emphasizing in particular the importance of direct contact with students and academics, the Church, business leaders and the wider Serbian community in New England.  

“I want the Consulate General to be present wherever our people are — to listen to them, connect them and work together to create new opportunities for even stronger ties with Serbia. I leave Boston with extremely positive impressions and great satisfaction with all the meetings and activities carried out during this visit,” Ambassador Božović said.
