At the invitation of the Jewish community, Chief Rabbi Arthur Schneier, and a witness to Kristallnacht, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Dr. Vladimir Bozovic, attended the commemoration of the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, during which Nazis and fascists in Germany and Austria burned down hundreds of synagogues. Along with a prayer in the synagogue and a speech by the Austrian Consul General in New York, Dr. Vladimir Bozovic addressed the attendees at a commemorative luncheon. He emphasized the shared history of suffering between Serbs and Jews during World War II, stressing the importance of cultivating a culture of remembrance so that such horrific and tragic events are never repeated.
