Consul General of the Republic of Serbia, Dr. Vladimir Božović, together with representatives of the Consulate, attended the ceremonial event "Serbian Day at Iona University," organized by Lazar Paroski, representative of Serbian students in the USA and director of OSSI America, which oversees the activities of Serbian students across North America. This significant event gathered a large number of students, professors, and guests interested in Serbian culture, history, and traditions. In addition to representatives of the Consulate General, the event was attended by representatives of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations, as well as His Grace Bishop Irinej of the Eastern American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who opened the gathering with a ceremony of blessing and cutting the ceremonial bread. Lazar Paroski and Consul General Dr. Vladimir Bozovic addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of Serbian students in the diaspora as bridges of cultural diplomacy, guardians of national identity and tradition, and promoters of Serbian culture in academic circles across North America. The program featured a rich cultural and artistic segment, including a performance by the folk ensemble Opancici, followed by a concert of Serbian music and poetry performed by students. The event was complemented by a tasting of traditional Serbian cuisine and wines, allowing international guests to experience Serbia’s gastronomic heritage. This manifestation represents another significant step in preserving Serbian cultural identity abroad and strengthening ties between Serbia and the Serbian academic community in the USA.
