Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Božović, attended the international service marking the United Nations International Holocaust Remembrance Day, held at the Park East Synagogue in New York to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The service was led by Rabbi Arthur Schneier, a Holocaust survivor and Chief Rabbi of the Park East Synagogue, with the participation of Chief Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot and the support of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation. In addition to Rabbi Schneier, remarks were delivered by Israel's Permanent Representative to the UN, Danny Danon, Israel’s Consul General Ofir Akunis, and U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dorothy Camille Shea. The event brought together high-ranking officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Holocaust survivors, and their families to honor the heroic diplomats who courageously saved Jewish lives during the Holocaust. Consul General emphasized that this significant occasion serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving memory, fostering compassion, and combating hatred. It is also an opportunity to highlight the role of diplomacy in building peace and understanding among nations, as well as the moral responsibility of every individual and community to act in the direction of justice, solidarity, and human dignity. Serbia remains committed to interfaith dialogue, mutual respect, and Holocaust education to ensure that the horrors of the past are never forgotten. The participation of Consul General Božović in this important event reflects Serbia's dedication to upholding these values on the international stage.
