The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković celebrated Christmas with Serbian diaspora in Chicago.
Minister Selaković and Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Arnaud Gouillon attended the festive Christmas liturgy officiated by Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America and the clergy in the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral.
The Cathedral exuded a festive atmosphere and the Serbs who were in attendance said they were pleased that a representative of their motherland was with them in Chicago for Christmas for the first time.
Speaking to Tanjug News Agency, they said that the visit would contribute to strengthening the ties between the Serbian diaspora in the United States and the motherland.
"Christmas is very important for us Serbs. It means a lot to us that a delegation from the homeland is with us," an elderly Serbian woman said.
Her compatriot, who came to the liturgy from Milwaukee pointed out that the unity of the Serbian people was important as well as the visit of Minister Selaković, adding that Gouillon was a "great Serb".
Serbs from Chicago welcome the arrival of the head of Serbian diplomacy, pointing out that the state should always be with its people, including with the diaspora.
"We are always happy when they come for a visit. We support our government, which is blessed by God and which should continue along the same line," he said.
