During the stay abroad, passport serves as proof of the identity of its holder and as proof of his/her being a national of the Republic of Serbia. Passport can only be used by the person to whose name it has been issued.

 

We ask you to look after your passport while staying abroad. In case of loss or damage of your passport you are advised to apply to the nearest diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia.

ISSUANCE OF BIOMETRIC PASSPORTS
Requests for biometric passports are submitted in person at the Consulate General New York.
You need to come in person to the Consulate General and bring with you for verification following documents:
1. original proof of citizenship of the Republic of Serbia (not older than one year);
2. original extract from the book of births – birth certificate -(not older than one year);
3. blue passport If you have not owned a blue passport, you can bring for review your driver's license or ID card (from Serbia). If you have a biometric ID card, you need to bring it with you;
A child, regardless of age, gets its own passport and cannot be entered in the passport of the parents. For minors under 18 years or age, in addition to the above documents, the presence of both parents is necessary or the written consent of a parent who is not present. Statement of compliance by the other parent is required when a parent is a foreign citizen. Signature/s of parent/s in the statement must be certified by a Notary Public.

The legal deadline for resolving the request for a passport submitted abroad is two months (passports are issued in the Republic of Serbia).
Passport must be received in person by coming to the Consulate General but only after you have been notified by the Consulate General. Be sure to bring with you a blue passport so that it can be cancelled.

The Consulate General is unable to accept requests for biometric passports for the following persons:
• Newborn children abroad until the complete registration of birth is completed, that is to say not until they are entered in the book of birth records of the Republic of Serbia; till their residence is recorded and their personal identification number is determined (unique identification number of the citizen).
• Those who enter into marriage before the foreign authority and request the issuance of passport in order to change their surname, till the change of the surname is listed in the registry books in R. Serbia.


LOSS/THEFT OF THE PASSPORT OF R. SERBIA
In case of loss of theft of the biometric passport of R. Serbia, it is necessary to immediately report the loss/theft to the American Police Department and from them obtain the report/receipt regarding same. Afterwards, the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York may initiate a procedure for declaring the missing passport invalid and apply for a new passport or travel document for travel to R. Serbia.
I For the issuance of a new passport it is necessary to submit following documents:
1. Original proof of citizenship of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
2. Original excerpt from the vital statistics of birth/birth certificate, issued by the government of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
3. Document confirming identity of the individual (personal ID or driver’s license issued by R. Serbia, or US passport, US ID or US driver’s license);
4. Police report/receipt about lost/stolen passport;
5. Completed and signed statement about the loss/theft of passport;
6. Consular taxes may be paid exclusively by cash or Money Order issued to the Consulate General of the R. Serbia-New York.
II For the issuance of a travel document it is necessary to submit following documents:
1. Original proof of citizenship of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
2. Original excerpt from the vital statistics of birth/birth certificate, issued by the government of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
3. Document confirming identity of the individual (personal ID or driver’s license issued by R. Serbia, or US passport, US ID or US driver’s license);
4. Police report/receipt about lost/stolen passport;
5. Completed and signed statement about the loss/theft of passport;
6. 2 identical photographs size 3.5 x 4.5 cm that accurately reflect the image (taken from the front – not profile or semi-profile - without hats or scarves);
7. Form for the issuance of the travel document, legibly filled out, signed on both sides (the signature must be certified by a Notary Public if request is sent by mail);
8. Copy of the airline ticket or confirmed reservation for travel to R. Serbia;
9. If the request is being submitted by mail it is necessary to submit a preaddressed return envelope with prepaid postage affixed.


ISSUANCE OF THE TRAVEL DOCUMENT FOR TRAVEL TO REPUBLIC OF SERBIA
A travel document is a document that serves only to travel to R. Serbia and valid one month from the date of issue. It is issued to persons who have reported the loss/theft of the passport or in other cases prescribed by Law.
Request for the issuance of the travel document may be filed in person at the Consulate General of the Republic Serbia in New York or by mail.
It is necessary to submit the following documents:
1. Original proof of citizenship of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
2. Original excerpt from the vital statistics of birth/birth certificate, issued by the government of R. Serbia, less than one year old (for inspection);
3. Passport or police report/receipt about lost/stolen passport;
4. 2 identical photographs size 3.5 x 4.5 cm that accurately reflect the image (taken from the front – not profile or semi-profile - without hats or scarves);
5. Form for the issuance of the travel document, legibly filled out, signed on both sides (the signature must be certified by a Notary Public if request is sent by mail);
6. Copy of the airline ticket or confirmed reservation for travel to R. Serbia;
7. If the request is being submitted by mail it is necessary to submit a preaddressed return envelope with prepaid postage affixed.
